About JUMP
The Johnstown United Methodist Parish, or JUMP, is a non-profit professional service organization consisting of the members of First United Methodist Church of Johnstown, Franklin Street United Methodist Church of Johnstown, Trinity United Methodist Church of Johnstown, and Trinity Asbury United Methodist Church of Johnstown and members of the communities served as designated by action of the respective local church councils and church/charge conferences.
JUMP began in 2008 under the direction of Pastor Tom Verner who was serving as pastor at Franklin Street United Methodist Church. JUMP’s mission is to identify the physical needs of our aging population and to provide safe living conditions for them. This is done through a partnership with community leaders and agencies.
JUMP was reorganized to recognize the need for “safe and affordable” housing for the people of the Johnstown area. The goal was to aid in keeping the elderly and handicapped safe and living in their homes as long as possible. JUMP works for clients whose total income is less than twice the federal poverty level. All labor is done by volunteers. Materials are bought with monies from grants, donations, and client participation, whenever possible.

The JUMP Mission |
To accomplish the housing repairs and ramp-building program, JUMP has been aided by the labors of volunteers from around Johnstown. In working side-by-side with some of these volunteers, we discovered a need for an intermediate living arrangement between halfway houses and normal communal living. As a result, the JUMP House was conceived. JUMP acquired the house and has completed its conversion into two independent living units. These two units will house six men: one resident manager and five men who will each live there for four to five months. This will allow the five men time to get a job and begin establishing normal communal living before moving on with their lives.
